Your parents made you boys become Scouts for a reason, you know. They recognize that there's a lot you need to learn to survive. I know you all had fun today with the hiking and with the obstacle course. You all did great, you did just fine, and you all have reason to be proud. But now I want you to listen, and I want you to think about something that we've been trying to instill in you since day one. Remember the oath? You obey Scout Law. And you remember The Law? The part I want you to think about right now is obedience. Don't look at me like that. Just listen.

We're in the middle of nowhere right now. Sure, you all know how to find your way out of the woods and you've got a compass and you're prepared, prepared for anything we throw at you, right? But some things, they just get thrown in on their own. Kids like you, and some kids who may not know as much, have disappeared in these woods before. Some of them get rescued and some of them just plain die, but every once in a while, a kid will vanish and show up again a few years later and he's nothing like he used to be, nothing at all. You see, the wolves take them. No, I'm not joking. Didn't your parents ever tell you about this? Look, you boys don't have to be scared; likely nothing will come near us with the fire and with there being so many of us. But this is in case you get a feeling like you want to wander off. You remember what I showed you before sunset? Bathrooms are just past those trees, and you get someone to go with you, and don't leave the camp, not by yourself.

I don't know why I'm even getting into this. You all might be too old, this could all be irrelevant - they'd probably just kill you or run away scared, depends on the wolf. Mostly they take the young kids, tiny ones, and raise them like their own. The children end up running on all fours and eating raw meat. You ever tasted raw meat? It's nothing like a steak, boys, nothing at all. There's a metal smell to it that you don't understand until you realize it's blood you're eating, blood and muscle, and don't you go getting sick, this is part of your education out here. I'm just telling you the facts.

The wolves are a lot more like people than we realize. We take care of each other, just like them. And you promise the same thing every time we take that oath. I know you get sick of repeating it, I know that. But you'll thank me later, thank me when those words become part of you. You'll realize why the wolves will take care of a kid and why sometimes the kid won't realize it's not a wolf. It's kind of odd and you might not understand this now, but most of the time, humans don't fully realize they're humans anyways. Not until something like a wolf child comes along. Then one day someone is walking through the woods and he'll see some ghost of a kid running with the pack and he'll say hey now, what's this? That man will say, no, that is not right, humans belong with humans. Then all hell will break loose.

Don't give them that chance, boys. You're much safer here. And besides, you don't want to know what the wild will do to a man. You forget how to speak, how to think, and your life becomes action, survival, survival. You don't believe me, go ahead. Take your chances. The pack, it makes it's own decisions, and it's a chance you may have to take. I'm not holding much back right now, but I'm telling you the part of the story you need to know. Maybe you're too young for the real stuff.
